Human Trafficking Awareness Training and Consultation
For nearly a decade, Ann has been recognized as an expert in Texas Law for the protection of victims of human trafficking. Her passion and knowledge started with the representation of a 13-year old child charged with prostitution. This led to a case of first impression, the foundation of law protecting child victims. In addition to being a founding member of prostitution related problem solving courts, Ann started and developed the Human Trafficking Section for the Harris County District Attorney's Office from February 2013 until January 2017.
Ana Martinez was the first prosecutor brought on to expand the local prosecution efforts to better combat human trafficking. Martinez' knowledge of international law and the cultural challenges of international victims made her an invaluable asset to the Human Trafficking Section.
The efforts of their team along with law enforcement and public and private partnerships resulted in a more balanced attack of better identifying victims, and increased prosecution of Pimps and Johns.
Johnson and Martinez continue to provide training and assistance, upon request, for public and private partners in the fight to identify and assist victims of human trafficking.
